Google have just fired off a huge salvo in the vertical search market by allowing people and webmasters to create their own custom search engines.
To give an example it would take five minutes to build a custom Labour bloggers search engine. Simply enter the websites on blogger4labour into the Google customer engine and away you go.
If you have a large number of websites on a particular subject take a look, the application can be embedded into your own website. Watch out over the next few weeks and months for lots of different custom search engines to be produced. This market could be huge and Google are attempting to keep ahead of the game with this release.
I just wonder what companies such as Kayak, Trulia and Kosmix do now? They've made some serious investment and now average Joe Bloggs can pretty much replicate their applications in a couple of hours or days.
Everyday it seems Google become ever more intent on being the dominant technology company of the 21st Century.
